Tiger Woods won't be part of the field at this week's RBC Canadian Open at Shaughnessy.
Not that participating was an option for the injured golfer, but it probably wasn't in his plans anyway. Woods hasn't entered the tournament since 2001.
Tiger or no Tiger, Canadian Open organizers have done an excellent job assembling this year's field, which includes world No. 1 Luke Donald, Anthony Kim and Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Charl Schwartzel, three-time major winner Ernie Els, and long-hitting, man-of-manydemons John Daly.
Golf fans in this city should feel lucky for the opportunity to see such a collection of talent in person. Daly will also be fun to watch in the hotdog-eating competition.( TaylorMade R11 TP Driver)
Besides, Woods hasn't won anything since the 2009 Australian Masters and he's currently ranked 20th in the world. At this point, shouldn't we be used to life without him?
Maybe.
The PGA Tour on the other hand? Not so much.
Even in disgrace - or perhaps because of it now - Tiger still drives TaylorMade R11 TP Driver like no other player. When he was in contention at the Masters in April, sports fans - not just golf fans - tuned in to watch Sunday's final round.

When Schwartzel birdied the last four holes, golf fans were riveted to one of the most amazing finishes in Masters history.
Too bad so many sports fans had tuned out by then, after it was apparent Woods wouldn't win.
Combine the fall of Tiger with an American golf slump in general - the last six major winners have been European or South African - and the PGA Tour, along with its partners, have to be concerned about the future, even as they put on their brave faces and celebrate the sport's diversity.
And if not Tiger, anyone representing the Stars and Stripes.
The lack of a megastar American golfer is a huge challenge for the PGA Tour and its corporate partners, what with patriotism going a rather long way in the United States.( TaylorMade R11 TP Driver)
Unless you think a passion for women's soccer was the reason millions were glued to the World Cup final between the U.S. and Japan on Sunday.
Yes, women's soccer will definitely go mainstream now.
All the United States needed was a taste. Abby Wambach is going to be fabulously rich.

Wait, who's Abby Wambach again?
Of course, patriotism goes a long way in any country, so let's hold off on the whole "they only like stuff they're good at it" claim. If Canada had shown up to the women's World Cup, we'd have been waving the flag too.
Thing is, the United States isn't just any country. Not yet at least. Once China boasts the highest GDP on the planet, maybe golf(TaylorMade R11 TP Driver) will need a Chinese superstar.
Until then, if Northern Ireland could sit a few out, the PGA Tour would really appreciate it.
Nicklaus never won the Canadian Open. The best he could do was second, which he managed seven times. So Chez Reavie will always have that on The Golden Bear.
The weather forecast for Thursday and Friday is cloudy with a good chance of showers. And it doesn't look a whole lot better for the weekend.
