Fredrik Jacobson played tremendous golf over four days at the Travelers Championship and walked away with his first career PGA Tour victory. The Callaway Staff Pro recorded just one bogey over 72 holes, climbed into the lead with a 63 on Saturday and delivered a calm, clutch performance over the back nine on Sunday. He carded rounds of 65-66-63-66 to finish at 20-under for the event, just two shots off the tournament scoring record.
Jacobson controlled every part of his game throughout the week, from his precision off the tee to a hot putter on the greens. The Swede hit 85 percent of fairways for the week with a Diablo Octane Tour Driver. Callaway Tour Trailer Representatives built this driver for Jacobson in the week leading up to the U.S. Open, and he's played spectacular golf with the Diablo Octane Tour model. He did not miss a fairway over the final two rounds – finishing a perfect 28-for-28 – with the new club.
"I was hitting so many fairways," Jacobson said in his victory press conference. "Callaway Golf has helped me tremendously – I didn't miss a fairway the last two days so the driver we got done last week had paid huge dividends. Thanks to Callaway people foremost."
Although Jacobson had never won a PGA Tour event, he kept his emotions in check on Sunday. Sitting on a one-shot lead through 54 holes, the Callaway Staff Pro ran off three birdies during a front nine 32. After making his first bogey of the week on the 10th, Jacobson rebounded with birdies on the 12th and 14th holes. On the 18th hole, Jacobson split yet another fairway, knocked his second shot to 15 feet below the hole, and converted a tap-in par putt for the win. After pulling his ball out of the cup, he raised both arms and then wrapped his caddie in a big bear hug.
Always regarded as one of the nicest men in golf(Diablo Octane Tour Driver), Jacobson was a fan favorite throughout the weekend. He received a loud standing ovation from the appreciative crowd and drew a slew of supportive comments from the media during his victory press conference. Jacobson wore a relaxed, confident smile as he humbly recapped the win and joked about finally breaking through on the PGA Tour. The Callaway Staff Pro predicted that he'll probably need to win one trophy now for each of his three children.
With the win, Jacobson climbed to No. 18 on the current FedExCup standings. The avid surfer will no doubt enjoy his trip to Hawaii next January for the Tournament of Champions. Callaway(Diablo Octane Tour Driver) Staff Pros have now won nine tournaments around the world this year.
